Toyota
Toyota makes the best-selling car in America, the Camry, and the world’s best-selling hybrid, the Prius. This Japanese company first launched in America in 1957, and is now the third-largest carmaker in the world, after General Motors and Volkswagen.
Toyota has a reputation for building high-quality, long-lasting vehicles that appeal to a wide range of tastes. It operates six large assembly plants, which produce, among other models, the Camry and the company’s large truck, Tundra. It produces 16 unique models, many of those in both gasoline and hybrid versions.
Toyota is the parent company of two offshoot brands: the luxury marque Lexus, and the youth-oriented Scion. Toyota is committed to hybrid technology, selling more hybrid cars in America than any other manufacturer. It is developing an all-electric model that will be released in the first-half of this decade.
Toyota sold 1.6 million vehicles in the U.S, down from 1.8 million vehicles, due to supply problems related to the 2011 Japan earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
